I have three versions here for Over the Distance by Hitomi Yaida. She is basically a folk/pop and rock singer. She has been singing for several years now and this is actually one of the older hits, back in 2001. The album version is taken off her album, Candilize, while the live version from her live album Music Pool in 2002 and the last from her single collection. They all of course sound different, the album version is much slower, but the less popular as the MTVs featured the more popular single version from her maxi release. However, I actually like the album version better. To those that have not listened to Hitomi Yaida before, this would be a good start, since she will be releasing a new single due out soon, entitled, I Love You の 形. Hitomi Yaida is actually quite talented, she writes most of her songs and plays the guitar, some would say that she sounds like Shiina Ringo, but i really beg to differ, her voice is less powerful, less angst and less nasally vocal’ed’ and squeeky, almost more suitable for really teeny boppish songs or for candy commercials. Thank God, she chose more folk like songs with lots of guitar strummings as her choice of music. I saw a couple of her concert clips and she goes off key sometimes but she performs as though as it’s natural, making it Yaida style, hence still a pleasure to listen to.
