After thinking long and hard, hesitating here and there, I finally decided on a Macbook. It did really take a long time for me to finally switch. Even until now, I’m still wondering if I’ve made the right choice. For starters, for the price I paid for RM5,299.00 I could have gotten a Lenovo I saw the other day that was small and had a dedicated graphic card to play most games in the market now. For the Macbook unfortunately, it still uses a shared memory graphic accelerator and mind you that the Lenovo one, only cost RM4,400.00. Yes, with the works, DVD burner, 1GB Ram and a 12.1 inch bright view LCD screen. OK, I bought the Apple for it’s pre-installed programs and it’s almost virus free platform. However, I found out IPhoto simply wasn’t enough, I still needed the industry standard Photoshop CS2. And plus living here in KL, who needs original softwares? We have good ol’ pirated software at the fraction the original price. And of course, lets not forget the land of the torrents!!
I bought Sid Meier’s Railroads the other day, I love those good solid Tycoon Games cause I can very well forget about FEAR and Call of Duty where they are graphic intense games. To my surprise, it runs awfully slow as well… I mean I bought a 5000 bucks machine and I can’t play a game at a decent speed. That was when I said ‘shit’ have I made the wrong choice?
Nevertheless, I was anticipating that I wouldn’t be doing much gaming and perhaps more surfing and just experimenting with video clips and photos editing. Thus, I consoled myself, I made the right choice afterall. It does look absolutely stunning and room deco worthy. The size and slimness couldn’t improve more, in my humble opinion it does look better than the older brother, Macbook Pro. However, for it’s size it does weigh quite a bit, at a whopping 2.36kgs!! Never judge a notebook for its size, so someone once said. A friend recently bought a Panasonic notebook from Tokyo and it weighs a mere 1.3kgs!! Talk about light, Vista, Centrino Duo and the works. Its bad point is that it looks plastic’kish’. It doesn’t come cheap as well, RM8000 was the conversion from yen…たいへんたかいですね!!A Sony Vaio would be a much better option, not as light but close and the sleekiness of the metal is just breath taking.
Back to the Macbook. Before purchasing the notebook, I did some research on the mac forums and found out that many customers were complaining that the macbook generated too much heat. So hot that it was the sole issue that revolved around the beautiful notebook. Needless to say, I was worried and taken aback. OK, I said, my choice is clear now, a Windows PC it is. But, after shopping around and some enquiries, the sales people managed to convince me that was the thing of the past. The first batch did have that problem and it has been resolved. Thank God, they were right as I found out for myself that its as hot as any other notebook, definitely not a cause for worry. I even leave it on the whole day to download stuffs and it performs ‘under heat’.
The thing I like about the Macbook is that everything is in the box, without the need of searching for tools and software to complete the notebook experience (even a set of the apple logo stickers!). Anything you can think of is there; probably the same now in the new improved Windows Vista, which looks almost like a copycat of the Mac OS X. Wait till the leopard unleashed itself. No worries for first time users as well as it is a breeze to familiarize yourself with the OS X. Network ready, Photo ready, movie ready, DVD ready, everything ready. Anything you plug in fits…no requesting for drivers, new hardware found bullshit, it’s truly plug n play. It comes with a cool remote control that with a click of a button brings you to a media center, the presentation is just stunning. I saw the trailer of 300 in full screen through the Theatrical Trailers and its mind blowing to see the quality of the LCD. And I can’t stress enough about the good looks. The Macbook Completes me.
Sitting at the desktop of my macbook is the French beauty Eva Green playing the piano…I just love the colours and the cigarette in her mouth. Just classic.
