This post i suppose would be dedicated to Mr. Adrien, a great fan of Mika Nakashima and also the one responsible for alerting me on Mika’s latest single. Arigatou ne!

Eien no uta, which i think, translates literally to The Eternal Song. The starting seemed a bit corny with that Sean Paul alike jamaican rap…I didn’t quite like that bit. However, the chorus picks it up with a familiar Mika’s strong trailing vocals and I think it’s yet another good song from her just after her recent release, LIFE. The closest resemblance? I’d say it’s a little like My Sugar Cat. Japanese pop wise, she’s still the best!

Hi folks, I just added Yokogao (横顔) by Aiko from the drama series hotaru no hikari. Actually it was by the request of Hana. There you go… 10/9/07

LIFE is Mika’s (中島美嘉) latest single. This one is more upbeat as compared to her previous recent releases, Sunao na mama and Mienai Hoshi. Of course, her producers wouldn’t want to disappoint her ballad fans, takara, they added a ballad version, just like Utada Hikaru’s Flavor of Life. Japanese music as you may all know is really about marketing. They create buzzes with debut singles, and more singles and finally an album, with 70% of songs already released through the singles. Just months after the release of her latest album, to make sure she doesn’t fades off and to fully capitalize on her popularity, they have come out with a new single. Both versions of LIFE fails to deliver a great release, of course we know in reality that not every release can turn out to be winners. Then again, it may be that I have been listening to loads of stuff that I failed to really sit down and fully appreciate the song. Hopefully it grows on me. Anyways, I have a couple of other songs bundled up here in this post. Basically new songs from folks of yesteryears, Aiko, Every Little Thing and Utada Hikaru (宇多田ヒカル). All made leaps to the top 10 on their debut, having sustainability there is another thing. These are all radio friendly J-pop singles and quite honestly -easily forgettable. Since I have it, I’ll upload it.

Here we have Beautiful World, a song suited only for Hikki. It’s amazing sometimes when you think about it how a style of song would only suit certain singers. When you hear the intro of Beautiful World you know immediately who is singing. The song resembles Keep Tryin, one of her older song which i like . A jazzy funk version of Fly me to the moon is also included in this single, not bad not bad…i think it’s one her favourite english songs as she sings it pretty often at her concerts.

Fever & Joy – Mika Nakashima

These are 2 new english songs from Mika Nakashima. Fever, of course is a classic jazz standard sung by many singers. Mika sings it swing style. I can’t say its a good version because i tend to compare it with the jazz greats, but then again it is unfair to her. Yes, I’m contradicting myself here. In short, this is ok but could be better. Gosh I feel bad for saying that…Well, don’t take my word for it, check it out for yourself. This is actually found on the Sunao Na Mama CD single.

The next song Joy is found on her Yes album…Now, this one I like. I am not sure if it’s a cover or if it’s entirely new and written for her. A very cute and quirky song, nice rhythm and simple lyrics to sing along to.

This is another yet to be released single from Mika Nakashima’s Yes album. This is another good song, really like this one. Very much like Going Back Home and staying very true to her style of singing.

I just realised that all her music videos from album has a striking resemblance, she’s always wearing a cream coloured dress, the videos are all bright and white, nobody’s in the video except for her.

Well, i really think she should try to put on some weight. I saw her on Music Station the other day singing Meinai Hoshi and boy did she look under nourished (of course she is not), not literally, but a few pounds extra would make her look better.

I like that flower on her head ( i know there;s a name for it but i remember), very much like the ones Ringo Shiina likes to wear. Such elegance..

Being a big fan of Mika Nakashima 中島美嘉, here’s yet another song noteworthy from her latest album Yes. Why is the album named Yes, I don’t know. Maybe it’s Yes to good songs, maybe it’s Yes, I’m still singing, well whatever the reason, Yes is a great album. The track here is Going Back Home and incidentally my favourite new track from the album. It’s also written by Every Little Thing’s Kaori Mochida. The song here is pretty similar to Sunao Na Mama, but i prefer this one.

Have you guys seen the video? I saw it on Youtube anyways, it looks futuristic and all, but it’s so obvious that she is doing her regular gym workout on a TREADMILL!

Well, this is her latest single, with very much same familiar sound at the beginning, big music!…this song reminds me so much of So Wonderful, which is one of my favourite songs from her. This is ma ma,  there are moments in the song that are noteworthy though. See how you like this song.

Check out also Mika Nakashima’s newest album YES, it has most of the songs released on singles. I simply don’t understand Japan’s music industry…I guess it is a way of making more money. Release tons of singles, then hype it up with an album. So yes, many songs that i have are already in there, Cry No More, My Sugar Cat, Amazing Graze (terrible version by the way), All Hands Together and Mienai Hoshi. Thankfully the other songs in there are NICE unlike poor Yuna Ito’s which sucked big time. I really had big hopes for Yuna Ito’s album as I love her voice and ability to carry out a difficult note….I mean how many japanese singers out there can pull off Truth? It’s almost opera’tic’… Sadly her other ‘new’ songs in her album was pretty much fillers…like no effort whatsoever was put in to make it a really successful album.

Back to Mika, I just uploaded an alternative version to Yutaka Ozaki’s I Love you (her previous cover was in the single of Mienai Hoshi). I have therefore 3 version of the song for you to download. 2 from Mika & 1 from the man himself. There’s also another lovely song in there by Mika, an english song named Joy. I don’t know if it’s a cover, i think it probably is, but i kinda enjoy the song…sounds just perfect for a wedding slide show background music…I meant it in a good way and not it being corny…Again the flaws of pronunciation is very evidently displayed here, but you can look at it as Vanessa Paradis singing…exotic maybe? You be the judge, I will defend my Mika…She has also sang The Rose an old evergreen english love song. Mika’s english singing is still, ok. I like Ayaka Hirahara…but have you seen her sing Saving All My Love For You with Crystal Kay? In the words of Simon Cowell, “It was excruciating”. However, her japanese songs are pretty good, i guess it’s like me trying to sing japanese songs…or that matter any songs!!

Basically there are many nice songs in Mika’s new album, in my humble opinion anyways as my taste in music may a bit mature. I mean Morning Musume and V6 is a no no for me…

I will upload her songs slowly…i don’t wanna get in trouble with the authorities you know…not exactly noble what i’m doing here…

Nana 2 coming out real  mpsoon. Just wonder when will it actually reach the shores of
Malaysia, or rather KLIA. I don’t know why but it does work up quite an excitement for me. Maybe it is because I have 2 singers I like very much in there, Mika Nakashima as Nana Osaki and Yuna Ito as Reira, the lead singer of the band Trapnest. I was quite surprise that Aoi Miyazaki did not resume her role as Nana Komatsu or better known in the show as Hachi. I think she makes a perfect Hachi. Oh well, Yui Ichikawa is pretty hot too so I guess it ain’t so bad. December’s the date of release in
Japan…so we’ll just wait.Meanwhile we can listen to some of the songs featured in the show..Oh I was trying to book ‘Death Note’ through my phone, so they came out with the list of movies showing in TGV. Then I saw Nana, I was mighty glad, I decided I would go and watch this instead. All set…just flipped through the papers to check out what other movies are there…thank heavens I did…cause the bloody show was actually Nana Tanjung!!! Some crappy Malay Movie!! That would have been really funny if I actually went to the counter and bought the tickets!! Luckily there was still seats left for Death Note…
